An ultrasonic degating machine removes injection-molded gates, runners and flash in under a second — clean separation, no white stress marks, no hand filing. Sinceresonics builds degating systems for automotive, electronics and consumer plastic parts, including dedicated ultrasonic plastic degating stations for high-volume lines.
What Is Degating?
After injection molding, the part is still attached to the runner through the gate. Removing it cleanly is a quality step: knife cutting leaves burrs and stress marks, manual snapping risks cracks, and robot trimming needs expensive fixtures per part. Ultrasonic degating applies high-frequency vibration at the gate, which shears the plastic exactly at the cross-section — the gate area fractures cleanly without touching the visible part surface.
Ultrasonic vs Manual Degating
| Criterion | Ultrasonic Degating | Manual (knife/snips) |
|---|---|---|
| Cycle time per part | 0.3 – 1 s | 3 – 15 s, operator-dependent |
| Gate residue height | Consistent, ±0.1 mm | Varies by operator |
| Stress marks / whitening | None when tuned | Common at the gate |
| Labor cost | One operator for several machines | One operator per station |
| Rework and scrap | Minimal | Burrs, scratches, cracked parts |
| Ergonomics | Press of a button | Repetitive knife work |
For a plant removing gates from 10,000 parts a day, the labor and rework saving alone typically pays back the machine within months.
Ultrasonic Degating Machine Price
Every degating station is configured per part family — frequency, power, horn and fixture design, and the level of automation all move the price. That’s why we quote per project instead of publishing ranges. Send gate dimensions or a runner sample: you’ll get a machine price with a free trial degating result included. Machines that weld and degating share the same platform, so many buyers configure one unit for both jobs — see the machine quotation guide.
Typical Parts
- Automotive interior clips, buttons and housings with multiple gates
- Electronics enclosures and connectors on runner systems
- Consumer packaging components and caps
- Thick-gate parts where nippers leave stress whitening
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Frequency | 15 kHz (thick gates) / 20 kHz (standard) |
| Power | 2,000 – 4,200 W |
| Trigger | Two-hand button or robot signal |
| Horn | Custom per part family, quick-change |
| Options | Rotary tables, conveyor in/out, robot loading |
FAQ
Will the ultrasonic horn mark my part surface?
The horn contacts the runner or a non-cosmetic area, not the visible face. For parts with no runner access, we design contact fixtures that clamp instead of touch.
Can it handle hot-runner drops or valve-gate residues?
Yes for most thermoplastics. Send us runner photos and gate dimensions — free trial degating is part of every quotation.
How fast can we change between part families?
Horn and fixture swap in minutes; parameter recipes are stored per part on digital models.
